Christmas is fast approaching. And we know only too well how consumerist Christmas waste can be, so it's with the good heart that Talberou Woodland brings you this incredible weekend, where you can make your own crafts and learn some fabulous skills - just in time for Christmas.

This weekend will show you how easy it is to stay away from stores and packaging by offering more sustainable ways to celebrate Christmas with our loved ones, while being respectful of our planet.

A diverse range of craft activities are on offer, meaning that not only will you learn the techniques of each craft, but you'll also be able to leave with four or more handcrafted items that you've lovingly made over the course of the day.

All workshops will be based on eco-craftsmanship and use only natural materials, and all teachers will speak in both French and English.

Later in the afternoon each day, we'll share a bit of good cheer in community with mulled wine, chocolate tarts and music.

Saturday, November 25

Wet felting

For the felt making workshop, participants will have the opportunity to make 1 or 2 items depending on their choice and the time they have. They can choose to make a seamless glasses/phone case, handbag (choice of sizes) or headband. All using the traditional wet felt technique incorporating a blend of merino wool, silk and viscose fibers as well as recycled saree silk.

Lino printing

Engraving an A6 plate (postcard) from your drawing, then printing on card and A5 paper for framing.
Christmas design ideas and patterns will be offered, or other designs, so participants can create their own pattern that is not necessarily related to Christmas.

Sunday November 26th

Shibori using natural dyes

Create your own fabrics for towels, scarves, torches, or sewing and patchwork projects. We will use shibori, a Japanese technique that allows you to create exquisite patterns stored on the fabric. We’ll use the stitch, roll, knot and tighten, then dye the pieces in a rich bath of dye created by boiling onion skins.
Please bring small, sharp sewing scissors, an apron, and rubber or latex gloves.
If you have any old white or plain fabrics, yarn, scarves, towels and tissues, etc that you saved to make it something special, bring them too.
